Spence Monroe, some historians say he was born 1759, others say only that he was born sometime between the births of James and Andrew, a span of six years. Most sources state that he died in his early childhood. But his father’s will shows Spence Monroe inheriting land in 1774, probably in his teens. When the first Virginia land tax records appear in 1782, Spence Jr. is absent.

7th President Andrew Jackson (1829-1837)

Hugh Jackson b. 1762, died May 29, 1780.) After entering the Revolutionary War Hugh found himself engaged in battle with the British while in South Carolina. Hugh fought in the Battle of Stono Ferry, but was one of the thirty-four American casualties, killed by heat and exhaustion.
Robert Jackson, b. 1765, d. August 6, 1780. Robert and his brother, Andrew Jackson, were captured by British soldiers and became prisoners of war. The brothers refused to clean the muddy boots of a British officer and were slashed by his saber. Andrew, thirteen years old at the time, would bear the scars to his face and hands for the rest of his life. After two weeks as captives, their mother, Elizabeth, negotiated their release. Tragically, a short time after his release, Robert died of smallpox.
